DESPERATE NUMBER ISSUE

Hi,

I'm in a trouble. I wanna know what do I have to do to change the value of the number in a text?
I mean to strip it out multiply it by x & insert it on the same place. For example:

//if I have
$text = 'From California to Texas are about 1600,26 milles & from Nirvana to Manitoba 9600.65 milles';

// str_replace is fine for km to milles,... not for all numbers to convert (never ending story I guess) I guess

$mille = '1.65';
$new_km_value = ($mille_value * $mille);

// & I wanna get those new vales
$new_text = 'From California to Texas are about 2640.43 km & from Nirvana to Manitoba 9240.27 km';

Any idea how can I do that? I don't know from where to strat.

That will not do the work. I was thinking about that,... Too much work for nothing
I've a lot of... hundreds of db text pages that should be converted... only the numbers in a text. to km, to milles,... to inches to feets,... meters,...

It has to be done dinamicly. I don't care about the server load. It's on intra, so... max,... with staff & visitors per day 50 people at the max.

There must be a dinamic solution for it.

By the way how do they do those strip & assign link tasks. How do they detect the link or email in a text, than they pull it & replace it with a:

Example:
// befor as a normal text
$text = 'me@mail';
// after the pull & replace
$text = '<a href="me@mail">me@mail</a>'

If I can understand that I might find a solution for it.

found for a mail links with a p replace,...

But for numbers,...

no idea,...

If I use the multiple str_replace how can I prevent to replace the same value twice in a string?

only 400 to 600 and avoid further replaces with 6 to 8 & avoid getting 800?
