PHP/MySQL to Formatted Excel

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to export to a formatted excel file from a mySQL db over the net.

I presently have an export to excel option on the page that uses PGP to export a tab delimited file to excel. Now I am being asked to pretty it up a bit.

How can I apply basic formatting to the cells straight out of PHP? (client side excel macros are out, this must be transparent to the user)

This wonderful guy made an Excel class to work from PHP. You can (like i did) make your own class based on this one, able to export a whole MySQL DB with all of its tables to Excel.
