Error in connecting PostgreSQL with PHP

Hello,

I tried to connect to PostgreSQL using PHP with a method called pg_connect(). But it is returning a Fatal Error as,

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pg_pconnect()

What might be the problem. Any solutions will help me a lot......... I am unable to proceed because of this. please help...............
