if i read this line from a txt file

using file()
then write it back to the file (w) using fwrite() the written line is changed to

<FONT SIZE=\"14\" COLOR=\"#000000\"><P ALIGN=\"LEFT\"><FONT FACE=\"Arial\" SIZE=\"16\" COLOR=\"#FF3300\"><A HREF=\"\"><B>Contact Us</B></A></FONT>

this is frustrating ... can anyone tell me how to stop this. I cannot remove the "" from the line it is to be used by another application ... the php is used just to edit this file

you could do a preg_replace("\\"","\"",$orig_string)

Check and see if magic_quotes_gpc is causing the problem? No errant addslashes() functions?

No, it adds these slashes even if its the only line of code. it does it during read using file() .... very wierd
