Relative file path in included files

I think i may be setting myself up for a proverbial smack in the head, but i am stumped.

Anyhow, I have two html files which contain the html for the common header and footer for every page in my site.
In these files, i have used relative paths to all the images. (images/dir/filename.jpg)

So, in may php files i have called them using
include ("/home/north2/includes/tem_main_header.inc");

The problem is that i don't want to have to keep all of my php pages in one directory to ward off any further confusion.

But when i call include form other directories, the image file paths are wrong.

I have tried, as my host suggested, using '/home/north2/public_html/temiskaming/images/bottom/bottom_right.jpg' but it refuses to work?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

You are talking about two different things. The <font color=blue>include()</font> function requires an absolute path to the included file and the <font color=blue><IMG></font> tags for your image require a path relative to the either the page or the document root.

If all of your images are in the (absolute) directory <b>/home/north2/public_html/temiskaming/images/</b>, and <b>/home/north2/public_html/temiskaming/</b> is the document root for your site, then specifying <b>/images/dir/filename.jpg</b> should solve your problem (the leading backslash tells the browser to use the document root as the base reference).

I syill have the problem that i can't put files in a sub-directory like public_html/temiskaming/subdir/test.php.
Whan i do that, the relative paths in my include files are wrong?
Is there anyway around this?
