??? truncating a text result ???

I've looked all throughout the PHP manual and checked through the support area and cannot find any documentation on truncating a text result from MySQL. In my scenario, I want to be able to take an article title, truncate it after so many words or characters and finish it up with a "...".

Does anyone know how this is accomplished?

Sounds like you want to use substr on the results of your sql query.

Once you have the data into a variable, you can shorten it to a certain length like this:

$shortie = substr($mytext,0,500) . "...";
