Well mySQL would certainly be the best option. but you can also write data to a text file. look under files in the manual. You then have millions of options. You can have one text file for each pic. you can have a single file with a hash table (key-value pairs). Or another great option is wrtting to an xml file. By the way, any type of database is definatly worth learning.
