How to find out if a string is in a file

Hi, I was wondering how to tell if a string is in a file using PHP. And then be able to print something if the string is in the file. Thanks!

Try something like this.

$filearray = file("somefile.txt");
$searchfor = "something in saomefile.txt";

foreach($filearray as $key => $value) {
if(preg_match("/$searchfor/", $value)) print "$key - found match<BR>";
else print "$key - no match<BR>";
}

Hmm, that kind of helped. It looks like what it did was search through every line in a file and told me whether or not it was in that line. Example:

18 - no match
19 - no match
20 - found match
21 - no match
22 - no match

But atleast I found out there are 1060 lines in the file. 🙂 Thanks though.

The neat thing about code that shows you a solution but not quite what you're looking for is that you learn from it. =)
