Running a php script as root.

Hello,

I am writing a web based application that will check a user's diskusage for their home directory and mail directory via a webpage. I would like to know how I can execute the script as root so it will check the space of read protected directories. I know I can use sudo but I will be committing this package to many different operating systems and I want the install to be seemless.

If you are running PHP as an apache mod, you will have to set the apache user to have root privileges. Not a good idea.
