edit physical images

I would appreciate it alot if somebody help me with this or at least shows me where to look.

This is what I want: I have lots of images in one directory on my site (hosted on a Linux server). I want a php script that I can run from a web browser and wirte a line of text on all the images in that directory. In other word, I would like to alter the image so that this line of text is saved as part of the image.

Please help me.
