The location of the images must be web-accessible.
You can alias the image directory through your web server.
Example, with apache:
Alias /images "c:/my folder/"
So, even though the directory c:/my folder is not under your document root, images inside it can now be accessed using:
http://yoursite.tld/images/imagename.gif
