Session architecture

OK, I am developing an application that will require some type of session management for users who are paid users vs non payig users.

For this type of functionality I usually build a database session manager, however this application will probably recieve 10000's of hits so I think I will need a robust solution that will not crash out when the traffic comes in.

I have been told about session management using temporary files.

Any sugestions for session managemnt for high traffic sights?

Does the server side session that php offers have the aility to load balance between multiple machines?
