message body of mail

i am trying to send this message body to an email address that cannot parse html:

<?php

   $body = "Name: $user \n 
   Email: $email\n 
   Mac Address: $mac0 - $mac1 - $mac2 - $mac3 - $mac4 - $mac5 \n 
   Location: $location\n
   Comments: $comments\n
   "

?>

it goes to the email address perfectly. but when i try to:

<?php echo $body;?>

the newlines are not there.

am i missing something really dumb here????

you have to

echo nl2br($body);

this converts \n to <br> which is necessary for HTML to display a new line
