seach / replace IN seperate FILE

I cannot seem to find a straight answer to this EASY question anywhere!

I want to open a file called "whatsnew.html", and replace the instance of %%NEW%%, with %%NEWSTUFF%%

then save the file with the new info.

seems simple enough maybe 3-4 lines - I just cannot dig up the right documentation

Any help would be appreciated. Im learning now - so a good example would make my day

The right documentation is easily enough found on http://www.php.net/

Four lines: good guess. I use six, but that's ononly 'cos I restricted myself to one function call per line.

$html=file('whatsnew.html');
$html=join('',$html);
$html=str_replace('%%NEW%%','%%NEWSTUFF%%',$html);
$file=fopen('whatsnew.html','w');
fwrite($file,$html);
fclose($file);

ok here is another quick one:

How would I remove the entire line that contains the search phrase %%BAD%%? (from the outside file whatsnew.html)

In the sample code, after file() and before join():

foreach($html as $number=>$line)
{ if(strstr($line,'%%BAD%%')!==false)
{ unset($html[$number];
}
}
