Deleting line breaks for an email output

I'm trying to delete all the line breaks of a db query's result, in order to send the text as a single line in a plain text email.

If the text looks like this (in the db) :
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah<br />
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah<br />
Blah Blah Blah<br />
Blah Blah<br />
<br />
Blah Blah Blah<br />
Blah Blah.

I want it to be this (in the email) :
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blahn Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah.

I managed to replace the "<br />" by nothing (""), but the line breaks are still there in the mail it sends...
