Hello,

I need a script which is for a html formatted e-mail newsletter - i already have the script - but I want to know:

how can i get it to keep running regardless of what the user does - so they can just enter the url and then do something else (close down browser, click stop, or anything which isn't waiting for the script to end and the page to stop appearing to load)?

the reason is because each e-mail has custom variables, name e-mail etc... for each user and even though there are just over 200 subscribers - it's still taking a long time to process (over a min sometimes) and I don't want to risk multiple mailings, half mailings etc... etc... due to someone hitting stop, giving up on the page loading

so i was thinking:

page to load would immediately say: "thankyou - the newsletter is currently been processed. goodbye"

meanwhile it has begun a process of sending it out in the background, just whiring away until it's finished.

any ideas?!

sorry my message is so rambly... and probably confusing - i;m quite good at writing them like that :-s

try redirecting the user. i.e. when the user hits submit button, which triggers the actual script to send news letter. but you can use threading and let the script run while at the same time you can redirect the user using header()

this will make sure that even if they click stop or show down the browser, the original script will carry on.

or perhaps you need to use crontab?

That will help you do what you want
