carrying cookies over

ok i have a problem i have a login page which registers a cookie, then the cookie is carried over to the next page. but when they get to the third page it doesn't carry them over any ideas? note that im not setting the time on the cookies so that they expire when the broser is closed. all help is appreciated.

remember:
only pages from directorys of the same level or a deeper level are allowed to access a cookie

example :
cookie set in /test/index.php
is not accessable from /index.php

for security reasons.
