Links to Images and Documents

I'm trying to create a hyperlink to documents i only want users who have loged in be able to download. Also I was going to display certain pictures once they loged in. I don't want these files to be able to be downloaded by typing in the url. So I figure the best way is to put them in a folder outside the inetpub dir. If the commands to do this could be posted i could look it up myself, or if sample code was provided that would be Great! Or if there is a better way to provide file protection on IIS i'm open to advice.

If all the users share common files, you should consider using basic HTTP authentication... this is fast and is pretty good security wise.

check the IIS help manual for information on password protecting directories.

or you can do it the PHP way. i don't know any good tutorials off the top of my head, but I'll list them here in a little while when I do find them.

I'm certain many others know good tutorials!

I don't want to use IIS for authentication because of the way it works. I'd rather use php to validate from a database. And the only reason i'm using php to fetch the documents, is from my knowledge html can't access files in a different location on the webserver. I have the authentication working, i just need to know how to make a hyperlink to a document on a seperate part of the webserver. I figure this wouldn't be too hard to do, but i can't seem to find any information on it in the forums. Thanks for the reply and i'm waiting for the tutorials with anticipation.
