Mailing data held on MySQL

Q....

I am able to populate my database with info recieved from a form, but I have two operations that I want executed which I cannot get my head round....

1.-On form submission, whilst the info is sent to the database, I also want the capturd data sent to an eMail address.

and..

2.-How can I retrieve a record and forward the details to an eMail address.

Ok, you've told us what you want to do, but what are you having problems with exactly? How to send an e-mail? use PHP's mail() function. How to retrieve a record? Make a SELECT SQL query and use PHP's fetch functions, like mysql_fetch_array().

I have tried using the mail() function in the form page but no message was despatched. I wondered whether this was due to the mail request being on the same page as the form. Can this cause the mail() function not to work ?

what this sounds like is more of the server not having sendmail or an alternative enabled, which is possible. some hosts do this in order to stop users from spamming via a webscript.
