Blank Page

Damn - I am having a hell of a time trying to figure this one out.
My server was just upgraded to apache 1.3.26 + php 4.2.1 and now it just seems like it will output the PHP script whenever it feels like it. When I request a page, at times, it seems that the server or the PHP engine will simply "give up" on the script and stopped outputting. Other times, it will work fine.

Basically, it won't finish outputting the script to the browser. Any suggestions?
I'm thinking something in my Apache server configuration, but I don't know what.

Look in your php.ini file under Resource Limits. What is your max execution time? You might want to change this.

I just upgrading from an older version of php to 4.2.0 and had soooo much trouble with all my scripts, especially what seemed to be the apparent random amount of blank screens.

anyhoo, because I had worked on older versions of php with global variables turned on by default, passing variables was no problems. But with 4.2.0 it is turned off by default thus not allowing basic variables to passed anywhere, hence if you are sending a variable to another page from a form and just call it using $whatever, it won't work hence blank screen.

Either turn on global variables in php.ini or use $HHTP_POST_VARS['whatever'] to access posted variables.

hope this helps as I have spent last two weeks pulling my hair out until I realised this simple but critical issue.

Thanx, but I tried this problem.

I turned on the "registered globals" directive.

its set to 30 seconds - well more than I need
the script still comes up in like 3 secs, but not complete

Hey - I think I found the problem ---
it was in the php.ini configuration file. My output buffering was set to zero. Instead of changing this to the maximum amount (I'm not the admin), I used the output_buffering functions and did an ob_start() and a ob_end_flush()
