Open a file in a editor...

Hi there!

Could you guys give me some directions on how to open a file in a editor? I know that I'll have to use the exec() function, but have no clue how, even after reading the manual.

My idea is to have a script that will list all files in a folder and put a link "edit" to each file....This link would open the file within (in my case) EditPlus.

But exec() runs on the server, and EditPlus would run on the client computer, so how can you use exec()? You can send the file to the client, but it's up to the client what to do with the file.

And it they saved the file with the editor, it would be stored in their temporary internet cache.

Better off creating some kind of form that shows the contents of the file, and allows the user to modify and submit. Then have the server rewrite the file.

What I had in mind is to do a script that I will use to edit my scripts on my document root easier...So I would go to "localhost"...There a script would show all folders (projects) in it...Then when I open a project the script would list the files in it and give me the possibility to edit my scripts thru opening it in my editor already...

Well, if it is possible, I would like to know how!
