how many if else statements can you have

I have a series of "if else" statements within each other.. and for some reason I keep getting parse errors.

Example:

if ($var){
do something
if ($var2) {
do something else
if ((!$var3)||(!$var4)) {
header("Location:blah");
exit; }
} else {
do something here
} else {
do something here }

heh... if you're not confused yet, can you tell me why I keep getting a parse error on the line just before the second } else { ?

You left out a curly brace

if ($var){
do something
if ($var2) {
do something else
if ((!$var3)||(!$var4)) {

shouldn't there be only one curly close per one curly open? What you have there is two closed curlies for only one opening..

or am I just confused?

No, he's right. The first curly bracket of your 'double bracket' closes the previous else statement. The second bracket of your 'double bracket' closes the if statement for $var.

Another way to verify: count your total opened brackets, regardless of where they are. You'll count 5. Count the total closing brackets, and you get 4, so you're missing a closing bracket.
