getting \ when user enters '

Why do I keep getting a \' everytime you enter in ' in a textbox?

I have a form with one textbox, whent he user hits submit it loops back on the same page and is displayed in another textbox (textbox has a diffrent name)

example:

[there's] ==loop== [there\'s]

how do I get ride of the \?

Ive tryed

$new = eregi_replace( "\'", "", $new );

and $new = eregi_replace( "\'", "'", $new );

You have to use this:
$var="there's";
addslashes($var)
and when the loop is performed you can do :
stripslashes($var);
It has to be something like that....
it puts the '/' before the ' because that's an escape character.
But I'm a newbie too, but it's in the right direction I guess 🙂

hey thanx this worked

$new = stripslashes($new);

using the command stripslashes(); worked great

it strips out all the escape chars etc.. but if I want to add \ or / it will leave them in.
