selecting department works, but how do i

hello again. my selecting department page works fine now, now how would i go about .. here is what i want to do. Say someone selects the garden department, i would like to display all the subcategories and it wouldnt be a problem, but i have the departments list, and the category/department list in seperate tables.

would my second page keep the department variable that was chosen from the first page, or would i somehow have to do some complex script to search both tables at once?
