Select Box with PHP and MySQL

If anyone can help, i'd appreciate it,
i'm working on a feedback form and had some problems with MySQL's way of handling date so i decided to use select boxes, one for year one for month and one for day, however when i implemented it into the form, it wont upload to the database, there are no errors it simply doesn't upload. is there any special coding needed?

have you tested the select box's ?
what i mean is make sure the select box's have a name, then on the next page echo the result ... if this works then putting it in a db should be the same as everythig else

i tried that, it's not working
how do i tell php to get the value from the select boxes, right now i am using $year.value... but i think that thats not correct, i am rather new to php and mySql, but it is really hard finding help on the net for siple things like that.
