br2nl?

I have this textarea field that I wanted to save the formatting so before it went into my mysql db. I put the string through nl2br which worked.

However, when I go to edit the form and spit the data back out. I get a bunch of <br > tags. Naturally, I thought, if I can go nl2br then I should be able to go br2nl but apparently it doesn't exist. How do I get rid of these extra <BR > tags when spitting it back out on another form?

In the database, you should just store the data itself. That means that no formatting should be stored in the database. Only when you output the data, you format it. This means that you store the text in the database with the \n's, and when you output it, you pass it thru nl2br. You don't have to do it this way, but it's better because you're separating the content from the display.
