mail() didn't work?

Here is the code I used to send email:
mail("[e-mail]", "test", "this is a test");
but it didn't work. Why?

Try checking your php.ini to see what SMTP server it is using (or if it's using sendmail).

Also, if your SMTP server is restrictive in any way, you may want to include a "From:" header:

mail("[e-mail]", "test", "this is a test", "From: Me <[e-mail]>");

How could I change SMTP. Mine in php.ini is localhost. The "From" header didn't work either.

Well, if it says localhost, do you have an SMTP server running on the same system as the PHP?

If not, find out your SMTP server (ask your sys admin or if you are running this PHP on your local machine, ask your ISP what your SMTP server is).

Then change "localhost" with the hostname or IP of your SMTP server.
