help with ports!

i'm trying to access mysql on one server from php scripts on another server.

there is a firewall between the servers so i'm trying to figure out exactly what ports the communication happens on.

i thought it was port 3306, but apparently i'm wrong. i get the error: Can't connect to MySQL server on '10.10.10.31' (10060)

does that mean that they communicate on port 10060? in both directions?

i just wanted to get this clear before i ask my IT manager to configure and reconfigure.

No...you'll have to ask your firewall administrator to allow communication on port 3306, coz now the firewall is blocking it.

I am working on 2 win2k boxes. One is outside the firewall and one is inside the firewall.

I have the PHP scripts on the external box. TCP port 3306 is open in both directions. I am still not able to connect and I still get the error in my first post.

Is there anything I might be missing?

Can you connect to the db server using the MySQL.exe client from outside the firewall?
