guys,

im am totaly having a brain fart here. Im sure this has been asked an answered, but i didnt see anythin gin the forums.

I have a small database that has multipule entries. I can build a table that shows each entry on a seperate row.

What I need to be able to do is display the rows, and allow a user to click on one of the entries, which would take them to a new page to maniuplate the data (simple updates to a totaly different table).

can someone point me in the right direction?

If each entry has a unique identifier $id (I'm assuming numeric here - something more elaborate may need URLencoding() first)

<a href="edit.php?id=<?php echo $id?>">Entry Number <$php echo $id?></a>

and in edit.php you'll know which entry you're supposed to be editing, 'cos it's id is in $_GET['id']

thanks.. I was thinking I would need to do something like that, but wasnt real sure..

One more question - If i list out all my rows, I assume I could make any of the "fields" a clickable link to the edit page, as you suggested, by adding the echo '<a href=blahblah>'.$row['fieldname'].'Edit this/a>'; or something like that?

Certainly - it's a technique I frequently use in database management tools myself.

I even list several fields and offer the opportunity to sort by them in much the same way. At the top of the table is a list of field names and each of those is a link something like <a href="$PHP_SELF?resort=$nameoffield">$nameoffield</a>

Then I check $GET['resort'] to see if it contains a genuine field name, and if it is, add an ORDER BY $GET['resort'] clause to the query that the table is built from.
