regex problem

I know this must be simple, but I just can't seem to figure it out. I want to use regular expressions to match just one word. However, that word cannot be a part of any other word and it's not always guaranteed to have a space on both sides of it. So, for example, I may be looking for the word "work" in the following phrase.

"I went to work on day and came home and did some homework."

or

"Work experience:"

I want it to pick out the word work, but not homework. And as you can see in the 2nd example, I can't base it off of a space before the word, because here, there is no space. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi geoff,

with regex you can use a "word boudary: \b " option wich should cover your case more than decently.

Please refere to pattern syntax in the PHP manual for extensive support on this matter.
