Receive Email with PHP?

Hello All,

I am curious how much work is involved in receiving email with PHP. Are there any scripts out there that I can adapt to my needs? Are there any email clients that have PHP integration or will I need to parse mail program files?

I'm under the impression that I'll need an email server to receive mail, a web server, and PHP to somehow get certain mail files based on who they're sent to (an address set up just for PHP retreival, in this case). I haven't found much on how to get incoming mail from the mail server into PHP.

I'm looking to be able to write an email to my PHP application and have it be posted on a web site--plain text and/or HTML format.

The best way to access email though php is to use the php as a webclient using the POP and IMAP functions. You can even access commercial email servers with this. Although I don't know if any of them would object but I doubt it. this can however remove your need for the mail server. have a look at
