trying to write a counter...

Hi everyone, as part of my final year project I am suppose to write a counter for a web site. Can someone please help me, pointing out things like 1: how/where to start. 2: how to write the code and
3: pitfalls to look out for.

Very easy, you have one script and a text file. When the script is ran open the text file, read the value from it. This is the current count. Then increment this value by one and overwrite the counter file with this new value.
