Parse err, Unexpected $ after last line

This error message shows at end of page (last empty line in script):

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspweb\000asp\frm-artist-state.php on line 535

PHP and mySQL database.
Have just debugged down page and was expecting it to work.... But then this message shows up.... Strange .. it is no code at that line and none below it...

Most of the time, the error message that php displays is not precise.
I believe that the problem is not with that line but some line above it.
So, check your code carefully and make sure there's no error up there.

I had the same error. I downloaded a good php editor and it helped me find my syntax error.

The editor I downloaded is <a href="http://www.phpedit.com/">PHPEdit</a> a free editor for Windows.

I also read this <a href="http://wdvl.internet.com/Authoring/Languages/PHP/Debugging/">article on debubbing for newbies</a> (like me).

In the article he references a <a href="http://www.itworks.demon.co.uk/phpeditors.htm">comprehensive list of editors</a> that you might want to check out.
