this is just a quick question. I'm doing a "family search engine" and I wanted to know if there was a way with php to read the entire contents of a remote file. I've seen it done with jsp was just wondering if you could do it with php. thanks all help is appreciated.

Is the remote file exposed over the web (ie, can you hit it through a url?).

If that's the case, fopen("http://".$myFile, 'r') will work. This will return a file pointer with which you can read through or do whatever you like.

or you could just use file(), which returns an array of the remote page (each line in an index). It's a little simpler that creating a file pointer.
