passing variables from PHP to flash 5

Hi guys, whatever.... Could someone please help me. I am trying to retrieve a counter value from my PHP script to be displayed in flash 5. Also, at a later stage I will need to reset the counter to some value, so I will need to know how to pass a value from flash to the script. I would appreciate a small set of instructions clearly telling me how to achieve my goal.
