help with gd library

I hate to ask such a simple question, but I am a bit confused with this gd library thing. I am trying to create a page that will allow me to upload images and thumbnails to an image folder. My question is where do include these gd files, which files would i need to include, and how do I use these files once I have included them into my code.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
