Possum,
To redisplay the essay you should not place the text in the "value" attribute of the textarea tag. Instead, you should write the essay between the textarea and the /textarea tags.

hi
one of the pages on this form i'm working on is a 500 word essay in a <textarea></textarea> that gets submitted to the db. the data type of the text area is 'text'.
it looks like it's submitting successfully to the db, although i can't read it, because it says 'do not edit' next to the text area variable in phpmyadmin, and also - the form is supposed to redisplay the essay text area once submitted with his essay prepopulated in the text area, or when the user logs out and logs back into the app. it looks like there's an entry in the db for the userid for this essay, but the form is not extracting the essay from the db.
here's the text area code
<TEXTAREA NAME="mjp_essay1" WRAP=VIRTUAL ROWS=24 COLS=87 value="<? echo $mjp_essay1; ?>"></TEXTAREA>
am i going about this the right way? does anyone know of good online documentation for large text areas to contain essay questions in online forms?
thanks
