Vote system with IP logger

I have a voting system on my site, where people can rate games from 1 to 10. (here is an example of a game: http://www.lemon64.com/games/details.php?ID=661 ) Right now it stores a cookie on the users computer to disallow the user from voting for that specific game within an hour. My problem is that the cookie solution makes it easy for cheaters.

Instead, I want to store each voters IP address in the mySQL database and then automaticaly delete the IP after a specified time. Anyone with experience from this who can get me on the right track?

Hmm, using IPs wouldn't help either especially if they are using dialup or a DHCP based isp provider. Right now, i use ATT cable and my IP gets refreshed every 5 days.

this may be far fetched, but perhaps you should have a user database. only registered users will be able to cast a vote. this way you can keep track of who voted and who didn't. people can still cheat by registering for multiple accounts, but most won't go through all the trouble just to cast another vote :-)
