Successful Download Logging

I would like to know if its possible to log a successful download.

Assume I have given link to a file which can be downloaded. I also keep track of files that are getting downloaded. When a user clicks on a download, presently I log the user info, time & the file information.

But this download is disconnected say thr' slow network or user clicks "Cancel" button, is there any way I can avoid logging of this activity ? I'm right now interested in ONLY successful downloads.

If the file is served without the involvement of PHP, you'll need to check the webservers log.

Having covered that, you certainly can log successful downloads if the file is served by the pretty common usage of header and readfile() (or something equivalent).
