I will say, PHP has a great learning curve. I picked up the language 2 years ago, and I am amazed at how much I can do with PHP now. I had no background in any other language, aside from HTML.

If you are a newbie, stick with it. You may start slow, but as you continue to learn, your knowledge will increase exponentially.

Greetings. Since I am a newbie, I thought I would start here. I have a problem. I have a RedHat Linux 7.3 Pro box that has the Oracle 8.1.7 8i software on it. I want the PHP 4.2.2 process to be able to access the Oracle Call Interface to access the Oracle DB server. The problem is that the RH Linux did not come with the oci8.so file for the PHP to use. What should I do? I tried building the oci8.so file, but the file I have doesn't work. How can I debug this?

I was forced to learn PHP and ASP at about the same time and I'd have to agree that PHP is so much easier to learn and to play around in. The great thing about PHP is that with some effort you don't have to stay a "n00b" for long!
