and recently in my new host when I submit something with an apostrophe it gives me a mysql connect error, but when I put a \ in front it goes through.. ex

He's a good fella.

Will not go through..

He \ ' s a good fella.

Will go through.

does that mean you changed hosting companies? it might help to explain what ashnews is, and what "my new host" means, since your link goes to a "page cannot be displayed" 🙂

what, exactly, is your question? is it:
a) why does this work/fail on a new hosting company's webservers?
b) what did I do to make this code work/fail?
c) what do single-quotes have to do with mySql?

Hi,

You can do something like this; where slashes are added to chars like $ + ' + " etc.:

$string = addslashes($string_with_chars_in_it);

And just insert $string into your db.

Your new host should be having 'Magic Quotes' off, while earlier one must be having it on, and hence this problem is coming, you simply need to you addslashes when inserting/updating in database, and stripslashes after you select the data to be displayed.
