Accessing PHP from internet cuts out the modem

I have this problem:

I installed PHP on IIS5.1 running on Win XP. I use ADSL modem to connect to internet and I use dns2go client to connent via dynamic DNS.

If I access my webpages for HTMLs it is behaving alright. But if I access a php file, the modem cuts out(Alcatel sppedtouch US😎. First I thought it was problem of NTFS and therefore I reinstalled on a FAT32 system. The connection cutting out remains.

Can anyone help me diagnose what the problem is? with php(as it happens when accessing php pages) or webserver or file system?

Help is much appreciated.

Had this been the case, people would have had been sending out PHP to administrators 🙂 It would have been the most deadly virus ever 😉

After that quick joke, see carefully your server logs, all of them inclusing error logs, if it was to happen due to php, error should be there in error log plus, just scan your system, might be that you have a trojan etc. with php.exe somewhere and it is found before the actual php.exe could be found in the path, check out the windows directory first.

i bet IIS is the problem, i never trusted that crap thing from the start. when i tried to run PHP4 on IIS, it would give an internal server error every time i accessed a php file. i got Apache for Windows and the problem went away but it took at least 1 week before i even got somebody to help me configure apache for php lol (the 3 simple lines that go in the apache config)

on a side note, you would probably have a lot more technical support if you had Apache.

I used to use IIS with PHP and had no problems whatsoever. Admitadly PHP on IIS isn't as secure since it runs as a CGI, hence the reason for now using Apache...🙂

After some additional verification on the server, I found that actually all php files work quite fine except the phpinfo.php which is causing the dieing of the modem. Other php files are parsing in good order and behaviour.

Im presuming that phpinfo.php only has

phpinfo();

in it?

That must be the most used function after print so its wierd that it would have that sort of hardware effect 😕 has anyone else come across this?

while i'll side with you that everyone should be using apache...

PHP runs as an ISAPI module under IIS as well.

Really? Well well well. You learn a new thing every day. Unfortunately IIS doesnt have the same kind of file protection as apache does with .htaccess . Or does it?

i hate sounding like a M$ supporter by answering these questions (i'm not, linux-advocate all the way, but i have to be fair), but there is similar mechanisms for IIS, as long as you are using NTFS as the filesystem. you can incorporate windows-level authentication for specific directories, emulating .htaccess rules. however, you can't pull off fancy runtime configuration tricks like url rewrites or custom redirects with IIS, that's why apache rocks the llama's ass. 😉

I agree, Apache is far better than IIS. However, Im running Apache on a WinXP system. Id like to run Linux, but I like my computer games too much and I havent found a suitable alternative to Black and White for Linux...

heck you don't even need WineX, just regular FREE Wine will do (most of the time)

my best friend has already gotten Half-Life and Unreal Tournament to work on Linux (the Windows version of UT)
