I think I need a script, with a gd(or gl?) libary (the thumbs will be automatically saved in this libary)

The library isn't where your thumbs are saved, it is the command set used to process the images.

There are 3 different server side apps/libraries that can achieve this output:
GD (installed on most linux servers)
NetPBM (Needs to be installed)
ImageMagick (As above but by far the most powerful tool)

Unless you are on a server which has one of these packages (and the necessary image type libraries, LibPNG, LibJPEG) you will not be able to accomplish what you wish to achieve.

Once you know what facilities are available on your server, search google for "auto thumbnail php linux [lib package]" so for ImageMagick search:
"auto thumbnail php linux ImageMagick"
