mixing TWO functions...

This seems inefficient...

$profile2=(strip_tags($profile));

how can pull these into ONE function? essentially applying two commands to the same field (in a form)

Or should I build ONE off the other?

I wouldn't bother. You'll never see any performance gain by squeezing it into one line, you might even make it worse depending on how good php compiles/optimizes instructions.
