1 Product, 2 Prices how do I display the result..

A Bit Vague, I Know - but I will try my best to explain.

A variable carried across in the URL String

// example
order.php?product=shorts

Now the shorts could be in 2 different sizes and I can carry the size across with the string.

//example
order.php?product=shorts&size=xxl

Now if xxl shorts = £7.00 and sm shorts = £6.00 can I calculate and display the price without the user having to select another option on the order.php page.

If this is not clear enough I will try to expand further..

How are you discovering the price for the size? If you're having to query your db for the remaining details then there is no reason why you couldn't do what you are suggesting.

BUT beware, passing text strings via a url leaves it open to users modifying that address. Similarly, what of products where the product has to have 2 words, ie there is a space in your url. Why not have the unique product ID as your passed variable: order.php?prodid=39

The prices for the shorts are predetermined by their size

sm are £6.00
med are £6.50
xxl are £7.00

The $size is coming across from a Pre-Written Perl script and I am less confident with perl than with PHP so would like to display the price on the order.php page calculated from the $size as it id carried across from the Perl Script.

I can imagine a formula for doing this, but my imagination plays tricks on me...

if $size = sm, $price = 6.00
if $size = med, $price = 6.50
if $size = xxl, $price = 7.00
echo $price;

Now I am trying to spare my blushes because I have just made all that up after searching php.net for a IF statement, this is my imagination working overtime again. As I said in a earlier post, I am a Newbie and without knowing much more I am not sure if I am talking a load of pants !

BTW
I take on board your comments regarding the user being able to change/manipulate the text strings, but I am not worried by this.
My product range is so small that if it happened I would spot it before delivery, also some other factors are put into place to counteract this problem.

a true IF would be:

if ($size == "sm") {
};

BUT you'd be better to use switch:

case "sm";
$price = "6.00";
break;
case "med";
$price = "6.50";
break;
