Couldn't UPDATE on hosting provider's server

Pls help soon!

$query = "UPDATE news SET newsheadline='$head',newsdetail='$detail'";

$result = mysql_query($query)
or die("Couldn't Update News");

The UPDATE query promptly updates the respective columns on my (local) server. But It shows error "Couldn't Update News" on the hosting provider's server.😕

Variable $head is defined as varchar(50)
Variable $detail is defined as text (contains has a huge text -- like the whole news story)

I don't think it is because I haven't specified like stripslashes($head). Pls Pls Pls help!!!

DONE. Learning from a previous post, I converted the variables as

$head = addslashes(stripslashes($head));

and it worked.
