Non HTML Page Refeshing

I'm looking for a solution, preferably in php, that will allow me to push data to a html page and have it refresh as it is updated (or at worst every few seconds).

I would really prefer not to have to use a HTML page refresh (or a javascript triggered one for that matter ).

I dont have GDK installed on the server, would that be an option?

If I accept this work I have a limited time to deliver and Im not sure how to satisfy this request.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
