ereg confusion

Im using ereg to filter certain data from quake3 logs, in this case colour codes. ^{1 2 3} etc.

sample:
^{2!Old!3Katana7: 2I} just dropped flag
^{4V7|-4Sim77: 2heh
4[6<7XR6>4]7WarLord3*7: 2sure}

code:

$buffer = ereg_replace("\^[0-9]", "", $buffer);

^ btw theres a \ b4 the ^, but the php bb code isnt drawing it

output:
!Old!Katana: I just dropped flag
V|-Sim: heh
[]WarLord: sure

Warlords clan tag has become mauled, as it should be [<XR>]Warlord*. I tried different ways todo it but never got it right. Whats wrong here?

I tried for a while, couldn't get it to work. For some reason once you get rid of the ⁷ it whipes out XR.

You need a double \ to actually print a backslace when you use the php tags.

also tried

$buffer = preg_replace( "/(\\^[1-9])/", "", $buffer )

but it still screws that XR up. Damn PHP Im sure this must be a bug or something :rolleyes:
