Apache + PHP getting slower

I have a strange problem. I've been testing several imap webmail clients written in php (Squirrelmail, IMP, etc.), and when i login to the server, after a while (half an hour) it starts getting too slowly. This happens no matter if I stay logged in or if I logout. Nothing happens if restart apache. I have to reboot and then it starts OK, but later starts getting slower again.

I Have discovered that is the apache that consumes all the cpu, while refreshing or displaying the pages. The only thing similar i found was in www.phpbuilder.net/mail/php-general/2001081/2169.php and is a problem with the function require_once, just the same that gets slower in IMP.

Then i tried php3 with IMP, and have the same problem, i suppose that caused by require(), although this version doesn´t use require_once().

Then I tried IlohaMail, that only uses include(), and still the same problem.

I´m running
Pentium 200
32 MB Ram
RedHat 6.2
Apache: 1.3.23 from redhat´s rpms
1.3.26 from tarballs (i have tried both)
PHP: 4.1.2 as DSO module with imap only, and now with folowing

32 MB Ram? If possible, please increase Ram or upgrade/change your hardware!

Having same problem on my windows box, when MySQL is also queried.
512 Megs of RAM, so RAM is definatly not the problem.

Whole h/w config is at high end.

OS: Windows 98

Sorry - I really think your MySQL problem is Windows
Win98 only can use 256MB performantely, but this is not the point.
If you have performance problems please post your my.cnf (my.ini) and tell seomething about traffic@host - But norm,ally WAMPs are only used 4 development, aren't they?

as far as traffic is concerned, I use this while I am doing my development work, so almost no traffic, except refreshing a page every 30 seconds or so 🙂 . This thing happends only in Win 98, not in Win XP or Linux .

If you run top on a console on the server while this is happening, what does it show for memory usage by the httpd child processes?

Requests under WAMP (ME) were 30 times bader then the same LAMP requests on the same hardware (dual boot). Also mySQL console requests.

I tried to tune it (you can see all the set buffers), but withot success. This is the reason why i wrote the problem is windows. To tune a LAMP is no problem.

Now I develop under LAMP only.
