the webserver is apache on a linux system for now the network which we use is novell but the machine on which the apache server resides is not really connected to the novell system.
i remembered somebody showing me in java how he could remotely check the username. this way i know if somebody logged in and check the username against my database skipping the authentication bit via a dialog if unnescessary. i'm not sure when the java module gets out of experimental phase. but if it does i'll try it that way if nobody knows another way of retrieving it.
it's not a big thing coz things work good now but i thought it would be nice when people only have to login once and when accessing my pages they won't be bothered with another login dialog.
thanx
